Alex Mendez

Alex Mendez was born in Havana, Cuba. He studied classical guitar at the conservatory, “Gerardo Guanchez”, and there he improved his songwriting talent. Later he became known for his work with “Duo Alanimo”. Currently he is living in Denmark where he performs regularly with his band.

“Trova” is a Cuban singer-songwriter tradition that has been developed for more than a hundred years by musicians like Sindo Garay, Maria Teresa Vera, Portillo de la Luz, Silvio Rodriguez, Geraldo Alfonso and many others. Alex Mendez represents this tradition and a new generation of musicians.

His compositions are essentially Cuban, but also have clear foreign influences. The lyrics unite beautiful poetry with more down-to-earth and festive topics where one also finds a touch of irony and cheerfulness.
